COST - a major roadblock between you and our summer/semester/year abroad.
Thankfully, there are many scholarships to help you alleviate those costs!

Year/semester scholarships:
NSLI-Y - http://www.nsliforyouth.org/ - full State Department scholarship to study Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, Hindi, Korean, or Russian - approximately 15% acceptance rate
YES Abroad for Americans - http://yesprograms.org/yesabroad - full State Department scholarships for a year in Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Tunisia, Morocco, Bosnia, India, South Africa, Ghana, Thailand, and Egypt. This program is focused on building relationships between the US and Muslim communities/countries. The acceptance rate is perhaps about 20%.
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange, or CBYX - http://www.usagermanyscholarship.org/ - full scholarships to study abroad in Germany. The acceptance rate is perhaps 20-25%.
YFU scholarships - http://yfuusa.org/american-students/scholarships.php - full and partial scholarships to study in various countries, including full scholarships to Vietnam and China
AFS BP Scholarships - http://www.afsusa.org/study-abroad/scholarships/about-bp/ - full scholarships for students living in certain areas of the country
Speedwell Foundation Scholarship (WOOT WOOT) - http://www.afsusa.org/study-abroad/scholarships/by-state/pennsylvania/ - available to central PA students such as yours truly to a year in ANY non English-speaking country.
Summer:

Azerbaijan scholarship - http://www.azembassy.us/images/stories/essay_competition/Essay_competition.pdf - a full scholarship for a weeklong cultural program in AZERBAIJAN
